The Australian Ballet production of Spartacus

Since its ballet premiere, Spartacus has captivated audiences. Set in Roman times, the production follows the exploits of Spartacus, the rebellious leader of a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic. In times of uncertainty and conflict, heroic leaders rise to chart the path to a better world. Spartacus was such a man, and the story’s compelling themes of oppression, power and honour still have significance today.

In 2018 a team of world-class creative artists will bring the world of Spartacus to life in a brand-new production for The Australian Ballet. Vivid, evocative landscapes will enhance expressive, complex choreography that stretches the dancers’ technique and highlights their extraordinary talent. The work will be created to the expansive score composed by Aram Khachaturian for the original ballet.
