ABC Commercial has acquired worldwide distribution rights to new drama series, REDFERN NOW (6 x 55’ HD), developed in collaboration with Emmy and BAFTA award-winner, Jimmy McGovern (The Street, Cracker, The Lakes).
The series - which can also be viewed as stand-alone episodes - tells six stories of contemporary inner city Indigenous lives and features some of Australia’s most celebrated writers, actors, and directors - Wayne Blair (The Sapphires), Catriona McKenzie (Satellite Boy, My Place), Rachel Perkins (Bran Nue Dae, Mabo), Leah Purcell (Black Chicks Talking, Lantana), and Deborah Mailman (Offspring, The Sapphires).
Powerful, funny and bittersweet, REDFERN NOW explores the extraordinary events in the ordinary lives of six families, unconnected, except that their lives are all changed by a seemingly insignificant incident, an accident or a moment’s decision that spirals into a life-changing event.
REDFERN NOW is produced by Blackfella Films, producers are Darren Dale and Miranda Dear, and story producer is Jimmy McGovern.
