Guitarist Slava Grigoryan won the Award for Best Classical Album, for Bach Cello Suites Volume I.
One hundred and thirty of this country’s best and brightest horticultural media professionals were on hand to celebrate gardening’s glamour night at the Horticultural Media Association’s bi-annual awards ceremony, held this year at the historic Royal Melbourne Hotel.
The industry-voted awards recognise writers, photographers, educators, publications, researchers, and broadcasters who have demonstrated exceptional creativity in communicating the benefits and joys of gardening to the community.
ABC Organic Gardener magazine was awarded the Magazine Laurel from a field of finalists that included Gardening Australia and Your Garden magazines. Judges cited Organic Gardener’s winning attributes to be its “contemporary style and balance”, praising Editor Steve Payne for “a valuable publication, with engaging content for 21st century gardeners”.
Steve Payne accepted the award on behalf of his team saying, “It was a great honour and a fantastic acknowledgement of the creativity and hard work put in by everyone throughout the whole production process: from the expert writers and photographers to design, pre-press and printing.
“I love that we can put together a magazine with in-depth advice on how to garden organically, but throw into the mix cutting-edge environmental issues and organic lifestyle stories that appeal to a diverse range of readers,” he said.
